“I want to be in this” said my 6 year old patient. It’s this little book I made with before/after photos of my strabismus surgeries with testimonials from the patients. She had just moved from the Philippines and there having crossed eyes is considered a “cosmetic problem” and surgery was not offered. She had a very large angle esotropia, in turning of the eyes, and definitely needed surgery. I don’t think I have EVER had a child so excited about surgery. She was not scared at all on the morning of surgery. For her post operative appointment, she walked in wearing sunglasses. I figured it was because some patients are light sensitive after the surgery. She whipped them off when I entered the room and announced “Look at my straight eyes!” She told me that she was going to surprise her extended family in the Phillippines in the same fashion
