My name is Forest Cutright and I have had strabismus all my life. Nothing was done about it when I was younger and in my teens on I was always told that there was nothing anyone could do about it. Every time I asked my eye care professional about it, I was told that I was too old and no one would work on a person my age. It was very embarrassing; I lost jobs and opportunities because of the way I looked. When I was younger I was teased so often that I hated looking at myself in the mirror. Even as an adult I would never look at my reflection.
Growing up I could never see the 3D images in a Viewmaster or understood what the big deal was with 3D movies. I was even asked one time if I was retarded by someone that saw my eyes.
Over the years when I went to have my eyes check, I would ask if there was something that could be done, and every time I was told “no” because I was too old. That is until I went to Honolulu Eye Clinic, and saw Dr. Rupa Wong. On my first visit, after being escorted to the examination room, I again asked if there was something that could be done. Dr. Wong examined me and said, “I can help you.” I was expecting to hear the same thing I was told over and over, I almost did not hear the words when she said them. I had to ask for her to repeat it one more time, just to make sure that I had heard her right. she said “I can help you.” She told me about using an adjustable stitch and how it allowed the stitches to be adjusted after the procedure.
After the procedure I went home feeling something was different. Not only did my eyes look normal, but so did the world. I could see in 3D for the first time in my life. A week after my operation I went to see my first 3D Movie, and to tell you the truth it was worth the extra $4.00. This was a life changing moment in my life. I don’t know if I can put in words the emotions that I feel having the procedure done and how Dr. Wong changed my life. I may not love looking at myself in the mirror, but it not because of my eyes any more. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Dr. Wong.
